    We have a replica chamfron, cast directly from one in the Tower Armouries by Brian McKnight (RSC armourer), and that has a definitely offensive spike on it, which is unlikely to have been simply an attachment for anything, as it is approx 112-150mm in length, and is fluted and pointed.

      There could have been different types/styles of chafrons around, some with the “offensive spike” as you call it already attached and some where you could change the device.
